Lucas: 7 - High highs and Low lows

This past weekend, Nate came over to Melbourne because my preferred card shop was having their Q2 Pokemon TCG League Cup, the biggest local tournament a card shop can host. Nathan came to this store's Q1 cup in early February, and it was a good time despite both of our mediocre performances (Nate lost early, I squeaked into the top-cut playoffs and lost in the first round). I ran it back with Dragapult for this cup, if you want to know anything more about that deck check out my last post

The cup was on Saturday, so Nate came over Friday night. Katie and I took him to Long Doggers and we got some Caribs :)

The Cup

I started out 1-0 after facing off against a guy who had very recently started playing Dragapult and therefore did not know the mirror match very well. Not good for him.
My second match, the guy did not draw very well and I unceremoniously took all 6 of my prizes before he took a single one. The worst part is that his deck is supposed to be aggressive :( 2-0.
My third match.... was against Nathan!

Here's a pic from Nathan's perspective of me jotting down some notes on my prize cards. You'll notice my Bloodmoon Ursaluna is in the active spot. When playing Dragapult, you really never want to start that guy because of his hefty hefty 3-retreat cost. Unfortunately, Nathan's got what we in the bizz call a "terrible hand" and he isn't able to capitalize. I don't recall the exact sequence of events, but I get out my Dragapults relatively early, while Nate is forced to repeatedly use Raging Bolt's Burst Roar to draw a new hand. 3-0... and there's only three rounds!

Due to the two Juniors (I think <12 years old? kiddy kids), we had two undefeated players after 3 rounds and the winner of this cup had to be decided by the dreaded TIE BREAKERS. In round 3, with a record of 2-0, I was paired down to Nate with a record of 1-1, giving me a natural disadvantage in my "Opponent's Win %", the primary tie-breaker (because if I win round 3 my 3rd round opponent will be 1-2, whereas the other 2-0's are both playing each other, and the loser will be 2-1). I was able to overcome these odds thanks to both of my Rounds 1 and 2 opponents finishing 2-1! Ez tie break, not even close.

My rewards for winning are this sweet Champion mat and some Journey Together packs.

The hits from my packs and the mat. Good prizing all-together! We got a special art Noibat & Lille's Ribombee along with some assorted EX Pokemon, the best being a Lille's Clefairy EX that is super playable.

Only 8 (adult) players showed up to this cup, which had me fiending for a larger player pool. I saw there was a week-night League Challenge in Orlando yesterday, 4/29, and decided to go! I don't know if it was the Orlando players being better (probably not, I've played against a lot of these guys before), general sleepiness, everyone seeking out to counter Dragapult, or plain bad luck, but I went 1-3 and dropped before round 5 even started. Sheesh. My first time with a losing record since I don't even remember when. I had some pretty unlucky prizing in one of the games, with my Gholdengo-counter tech card being prized the first time I've played against a Gholdengo in months being the primary example.
    Alas. The pendulum swings.

Katie 3 - My Trip to Indiana

I know what you’re thinking - this isn’t the schedule! But Lucas decided to go play Pokemon tonight last minute, so he asked me to switch with him. And I’m a nice fiancée so I said yes.

We’ve had a LOT of really great trip recaps on the blog, from Aruba, to Pokemon Regionals, and now NYC. So I thought why not give a summary of my recent work trip to…. *checks notes* Batesville, Indiana. Oh boy.

DAY 1

I know what you’re thinking. Wow, only corporate baddies get to go to a place as sick as that. Just you wait.

Day One of the trip was a Monday. I left home at about 12:45 for my 3:50pm flight from Orlando to Indianapolis. This was certainly a bit too early, as it took me less than 30 minutes to get from parking my car to chilling at the gate. I pounded a 3 dollar Uncrustable before boarding (really hit the spot) an away we went.

On this Southwest flight, I was B49 (one minute late on checking in because I was pulling weeds), so naturally I took the first window I saw with a nice couple from Indiana. They took the aisle and middle but really should have taken the window and middle because this man kept leaning over to look out of the window. But honestly it was pretty funny because he was so excited. I enjoyed a little rewatch of Knives Out on this flight as well, very nice.

I arrived in Indianapolis and was blown away with how pretty this airport was. I can’t see myself ever coming back here, but if I do, I would come back to this airport.

But that joy was short lived as I got to the rental car counter. Here, they told me I could either take a minivan or a pick-up truck and I said uhhhh, huh? Do I look like a woman who wants to drive a pick up truck or a mini van around the city? After some back and forth, I agreed to wait for additional cars to be brought up, and ended up with a large SUV, a Ford Edge to be exact.

Once I finally had the car, it was time for the hour drive from Indianapolis to Greensburg, Indiana where I would be staying for the next 2 nights. It was a quick, easy drive through the country, where my main thought was… I can’t believe these people in the middle of nowhere are an hour in either direction from two separate NFL teams, The Colts and The Bengals.

I checked into the Hampton Inn and began my search for a dinner, as I was starting to feel a bit hungry from my last uncrustable meal. This town did not have many options, so it was time to hunt. Luckily, I found a place up the street called “Wings and Rings”, which seemed like a Buffalo Wild Wings Midwest equivalent. They had cauliflower wings on the menu, BINGO!

I placed my order for medium buffalo cauliflower wings, potato wedges, and buffalo onion rings and then set out to pick up.

Wings and Rings was solid. Cauliflower wings and wedges were fire. The rings were a little too spicy for me, unfortunately. But overall, if you’re ever anywhere with a Wings and Rings, I recommend it.

DAY 2

I woke up bright and early to kick off my day. I work remotely for my company, so I would be meeting a lot of people for the first time today in person, including my prior manager of over a year and a half. This is a bit anxiety inducing for someone like me.

I went downstairs for hotel breakfast and ran into Kevin, who is one of my coworkers I have actually met in person a few times. He caught me up on his recent trip to Dollywood with his daughter’s marching band and his more recent efforts to make sets for her upcoming school theater production (he’s a good dad) while I enjoyed a peanut butter waffle.

We decided to carpool and I made Kevin roll through the Starbucks drive thru with me (sorry Kevin). It was another, you guessed it, 20 minute drive to our primary destination, Batesville, which has a population of 7000 and apparently an office for my company.

I had lots of introductions to people I’ve actually known and been working with for a few years, which is an odd feeling. Particularly my old boss, Chris, who as I stated before, I had never actually ever met in person while he was my boss.

We got to work (lame!!). For lunch, they provided us a taco bar (yay) and I drank a Coke Zero way too fast and had hiccups for the next hour (boo).

Finally, it was 5pm and time to go to our group dinner to a local steakhouse. Although there were some fish options on the menu, I wasn’t feeling too keen on middle-of-Indiana fish, so decided to go for a mushroom and chicken Alfredo, hold the chicken. We got some curds to share as well (delicious). I was sat by a nice man from Nepal and bonded over love for Imagine Dragons. Overall, a great time! Didn’t get any real pictures for today, but I was clocked in, as you can imagine.

DAY 3

The last day is here! This time when I headed down for breakfast, I ran into Chris. We had breakfast (a peanut butter bagel today) while discussing his upcoming trip to Disney World with his family. He’s been studying Lightning Lane strategy and I told him it was sure to pay off.

We carpooled into work and had a long, busy day solving issues and strategizing, etc, etc. Lunch today was a stir fry bar, which for me was just some fried rice and noodles with sauce, but pretty decent all things considered. This time I only drank half the Coke Zero, very slowly.

Finally, it was the end of the day and time to head back to Indianapolis for my 8pm flight home. On the way, I faced my biggest fear (getting gas by myself in the rental car), and made it with plenty of time until boarding. I enjoyed a lovely $17 grilled cheese for dinner and reminisced on my delightful trip.

I bought some M&Ms for my in flight snack and approached the gate, only to find a great fear come true: an entire high school marching band was on this flight from Indianapolis to Orlando. Bravely, I took my place in line (A31, let’s go) and hoped for the best. By some miracle, I ended up with an empty seat next to me on board and locked in for a viewing of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. I love this movie, another top recommendation from me for a plane movie.

We landed softly down in Orlando early. The children on the plane clapped, and I agreed with the sentiment. Boy, was I happy to be home.

I dragged myself off the plane and eventually found my car. The drive home wasn’t too bad, and I was so delighted to see my lovely fiancé waiting up for me… or so I thought. Turns out, it was Nintendo Switch 2 release night, so he was just waiting up for that and now I was his accomplice and was not able to go to bed. We waited until midnight, only for things to become a mad scramble. He had 2 separate orders get cancelled. But I, by some miracle, was able to secure us a family Switch 2.

It was time to rest on a grateful universe, or whatever.

Good night!

Kedrick: 7 - A Weekend in NYC

Hello and welcome to my 7th blog! I’ve had some writer’s block with this one after having the proverbial rug pulled out from beneath me. I originally had dinner plans tonight and was going to blog about that experience, but the plans were postponed by exactly one week due to an unforeseen illness in the group. Drat. My beautiful wife, Lizzie, and I just got back from a trip to Washington D.C. yesterday, but I won’t have my two rolls of film from that trip developed for another week, so we’ll just have to wait on that blog! Luckily for you, my dear reader, I got my roll of Ilford HP5 black and white film back from the New York City trip that Lizzie and I went on a few weeks ago. It was my first time shooting on this film stock and I couldn’t be happier with the results (I shot another roll of it in DC before seeing the results). Today I’m going to go over what we did in Manhattan (and a brief trip to Brooklyn) with the help of some 35mm film and iPhone pictures!

Friday, April 4th

Lizzie and I packed in the morning and departed for the airport around 10am at a very leisurely pace as our flight out wasn’t until 12:30pm. It was a nice morning! Looking at my camera roll from that morning to jog my brain, I now recall that when we were on the way to the airport my phone was lighting up from the “Atlantasy” group chat, the chat for our Atlanta-based fantasy football league but is constantly buzzing with other sports news, jokes, gambling activities, and miscellaneous discussions. A relative of Chad’s girlfriend (believe it was a cousin) ran into a world-famous celebrity that morning and he shared a video of the interaction. Who was the famous pop culture icon? It was a living legend himself, Druski, out for a nice morning bike ride through the streets of a local ATL neighborhood. The video was hilarious, and I shared it with Lizzie, knowing that she’d at least recognize him from his meme format superstardom. I then shared the screenshot with the Mir boys who all found the interaction as funny as I did.

We arrived at the airport and strolled through security in record time, even with my new security ritual of providing my rolls of film for the weekend in a Ziploc bag to TSA agents and patiently waiting for them to hand check it. After we got to the gate, I loaded film into my camera, filled up my water bottle, and boarded shortly thereafter. Even though it was a short flight to LaGuardia, I managed to squeeze in a movie viewing into my flight. I chose an absolutely perfect plane film, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. I really thought it was going to be trash and boy was I wrong. I found myself constantly giggling to the unstoppable onslaught of Jack Black acting like a 16-year-old girl stuck in his body and falling in love with Nick Jonas. Super fun movie.

We landed at approximately 2:43PM in the Eastern time zone and got to see Illinois One, a cool Southwest plane. We left the airport, took a taxi to our hotel (Hyatt Place Chelsea – would recommend), and by 4PM we were checked in, changed, and ready to go attack the town. We walked somewhat aimlessly towards the Flatiron building since I wanted a picture of it and stumbled upon the Eiffel Tower. One of our favorite bits is the Eiffel Tower (also from Vegas) bit from Despicable Me, so we got a picture and sent it to Lizzie’s sister (we did the same bit when we were in Las Vegas last December).

We then took a stroll through Eataly NYC Flatiron, which we loved even though we didn’t purchase anything, and continued to walk 5th avenue for some light shopping. We didn’t buy anything, but I took a picture of some cool ASICS shoes at 5:14PM so I could go back and maybe buy them later.
Our reservation was approaching, so we stopped shopping and made a beeline for OLIO E PIU in Greenwich Village. Of course, we stopped off one more time because there was a cool looking park with some blossoming trees behind a church. After that, though, we were off to dinner, which was just across the street.

Lizzie secured this reservation and got us patio seating, which I was very happy about since it was a beautiful spring night. We got a bottle of Barbera wine, which we had discovered we both liked this past February in Sonoma. It is a more full-bodied red wine but still lower on tannins (the ingredient that makes a wine dry) compared to some wines that I tend to prefer (namely Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon) vs Lizzie’s preference for a more sweet and less dry wine (but still not fully on the sweet side of the spectrum). We started with wine and crusty bread, which was fantastic, then got a couple different types of cheeses and some meat to pair with those. As I’m a huge fan of Caesar salad, we shared one of those as well. I do not say this lightly – it was probably the best Caesar salad I have ever had in my life. The dressing was to die for, the croutons ideal, and the lettuce the perfect mix of fresh and crunchy. When it was served to us, I put some on my plate, took a bite, and didn’t even say how much I liked it for a few minutes. I just kept eating it. It is for this reason that I don’t have a picture of it. Gone before I even realized it. True 10/10 Caesar salad.

For my main course, I got the night’s special, a truffle parmesan fettuccine dish. It was also a 10/10 dish. Pasta was cooked to perfection and the truffle wasn’t that grated BS you get on fries at a “fancy” restaurant, they were the straight mushrooms. After all this delicious food, we tried to refuse dessert, but the waitress said it was on her if we left her a good review on Google. Luckily for her, I can both easily be bought and enjoy writing reviews on Google, so we ordered the tiramisu. It was lovely and I happily left a five-star review on Google mentioning our waitress, Gocke.

With our bellies full, we moved on to our next activity for the evening, a rooftop bar. I am notably afraid of heights, but had written this down on the list of things we would do from the beginning. I’m still a sucker for a great skyline view! Our reservation wasn’t until 8:30, so we went back to the hotel for a bit to relax after a big dinner. We took the subway a few blocks towards Times Square and made it to the hotel, where we were greeted by a nice hotel employee who checked our IDs and shared with us that he lived in Savannah for a few years. We made our way up to the rooftop bar and shared a couple drinks with an amazing view! Fun!

Afterwards, I expressed that I wanted to go take a peek at Times Square since it was very close, and I wanted some pictures of it at night. Lizzie, being the trooper she is, followed along with it even though it’s an objectively terrible place. Turns out it was as truly God awful as I remember it to be, but it was very worth it because I got some amazing film pictures.

We exited that God forsaken street as soon as we could and walked our way back home so we could grab a New York Slice on the way back. I found a place with great reviews on Google, so we went there and grabbed a cheap slice. It was great, but as Lizzie correctly pointed out on the way home, it only had high Google reviews because you could get a free slice from reviewing it and showing them. Oh.

Saturday, April 5th

It was a dreary morning with rain in the forecast, but we still got up early and left the hotel around 8AM to grab coffee and hit up the Union Square greenmarket, which began in 1976. We walked around the market to check out all the local offerings. I got my traditional farmers market breakfast, a savory pastry (believe it was a spinach and feta empanada) and Lizzie got an almond croissant.

Afterwards, we took the train up to Central Park. We saw a bunch of the classic Central Park sights and I took a bunch of great pictures during our ~2 mile walk from the south end all the way to the big reservoir near the north side before it started to rain. Once the rain hit, we found the nearest subway station and rode back home, where we decided it was time for lunch. We hit up Eataly again and enjoyed a delicious spicy pepperoni sandwich.

It was once again time to shop until we dropped. There were a few places on the stretch that I wanted to check out, like Zara where I thought about buying some cruise wear for our upcoming trip with Gustavo and the gang. Big swing and a miss there. I liked the shirt, but it wasn’t comfortable enough. Enter to stage right, ol’ reliable. H&M. It’s very rare that I step foot inside an H&M ready to spend some money and don’t come away with at least one item. In this case, it would be two items from the clearance rack. This shirt was super comfortable, and the second shirt was only $7. I got exactly what I was looking for and my total was $24.98.

The day was going by fast, and it was almost time for our main event – the Final Four game between Lizzie’s Auburn Tigers and my Florida Gators. We were to leave nothing to chance and therefore wanted to find a place to settle in by 5PM for the 6:09PM tipoff. The original place I found was primarily a soccer bar that I’d heard of from my favorite FPL podcast (the hosts live in Brooklyn so this Manhattan on the next street over from our hotel had been used as a meetup spot). We walked in and much to our dismay they were showing the conclusion of La Liga match between Barcelona and Real Betis. Even if it would clear up, it was far too busy to be able to establish our foothold at the bar without a little bit of work. As we decided whether we wanted to stay or not, I quickly looked at Google Maps and found another place around the corner called Storehouse. We walked there and found a couple prime spots. They were showing some NHL action, so I double-checked with our server to make sure they were going to show the Final Four game. “Definitely.”, he said. “OK awesome.”, I replied.

We shared some loaded nachos, and I downed probably too many $6 happy hour beers before and during the game, which was a great time for both of us even though the result would inevitably favor just one of us. The Florida Gators of course won, I made Lizzie a little annoyed by being a drunk bastard, but we reconciled over some delicious Taco Bell from the nearby Taco Bell Cantina before retiring to our hotel only to fall asleep during the Duke/Houston game before its insane finish.

Sunday, April 6th

We had a great time over the past few days, but when we woke up, we were ready to go home later that afternoon. There was only one thing left to do, something that Lizzie had found out about the night before. The New York Transit Museum. Lizzie booked us tickets for 10:30AM, so we were once again up and at ‘em around 8AM. We got bagels and coffee at a nearby joint and realized that we should’ve split one rather than getting our own.

Afterwards, we made our way to Brooklyn to visit the museum, which is in a now-abandoned subway station. It was insanely cool and a highlight of our trip. I would for sure recommend it to anyone visiting NYC with any interest in the subway system (public transit is one of Lizzie’s ASIs). They have a history of the subway system, which was built between roughly 1900 and 1905, and a very cool area with around 15 different styles and variations of subway trains that were used from all the way back then until the current day, showing the evolution of the train cars. Wicked.

We left the museum and took the subway to a nearby mall next to the arena where the Nets play which has a UNIQLO, somewhere I wanted to go shopping since I enjoyed so much the last time I went to NYC. They didn’t have any t-shirts I really loved but I did get some new white shorts and some boxers! We had just enough time afterwards for lunch before our flight, so we took the Subway back to Manhattan and went to a place Lizzie found. It was called Revelie and we shared a patty melt that was soooooo damn good. Very cool diner in general! They had The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly playing on a small TV above the bar which is a fast way to win me over.

Afterwards, we learned our flight was delayed due to some very bad weather in the south. We took the subway one last time back to 5th Ave where we did even more shopping. I bought those shoes that I took a picture of on Friday and we went to Old Navy where Lizzie bought some work clothes.

We then finally made our way back to the hotel to pick up our luggage, go back to LaGuardia, and took one of the bumpiest flights of my life. We touched down back in ATL at 9:25PM.

Nathan: 7- The Brother Blog

The Week of a Lifetime

Hello, Companions—welcome back!
Today, I’ve got a story for you: a weeklong odyssey packed with travel, cards, concerts, chicken tenders (some vegan, some not), and unforgettable memories with my brothers. Buckle up, because this was the week of a lifetime.

Stop 1: Viera, Florida – Cards, Concerts, and Cuban Bread

My journey began on April 5th, 2025. I hit the road with my mom to visit my brother Lucas and his fiancée, Katie (both fellow Companions), in the beautiful planned community of Viera, Florida. The trip had three goals:

  1. Catch Katie’s chorus concert with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra (they go crazy every spring and winter),

  2. Crack open the Journey Together booster box I’d split with Lucas,

  3. Test my deck against the meta’s top two: Dragapult and Tera Box.

Before leaving Tampa, my mom suggested we hit La Segunda Bakery—a Mir family classic and a Cuban cornerstone of the community. Their Cuban bread? Best on this side of the Gulf of Mexico (not the gulf of america). I finally tried one of their breakfast sandwiches, and oh my god. Absolutely delivered. See below for photographic proof of this sandwich masterpiece.

Once in Viera, we immediately got to business: open that damn booster box. It had been burning a hole in my closet for weeks. We pulled some heat, and even better—my mom pulled a Special Illustration Rare Volcanion. Iconic.

What I really wanted was a Lillie’s Clefairy EX—the perfect counter to both my Raging Bolt deck and Dragapult, the format’s current menace. Sure, we could’ve proxied it for testing, but that’s just not the same. Things weren’t looking good as the box dwindled… until the final few packs. BOOM. Full Art Clefairy EX. No proxy needed. Very nice.

Lucas and I dove into deck testing. I got stomped—repeatedly—but he’s way better than me, and honestly, I always have fun playing against him. Plus, I learned a lot.

That night, we went to the spring concert, and it was phenomenal. The orchestra absolutely shredded (as usual), and Katie crushed it. You could see how focused she was, totally locked in. I’m also a big fan of conductor Christopher Confessore. Guy just seems cool.

The next morning, we hit The Salty Bagel for breakfast. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on an Asiago bagel, and as expected, Asiago did not let me down. A perfect wrap-up to a wholesome, productive visit. The concert was great, but the real MVP was the Dragapult bootcamp. Didn’t drop a single game VS Dragapult in Atlanta.

Stop 2: Gainesville, Florida – Natty Dubs and Surges

On Monday, April 7th, I made my way to Gainesville for the National Championship game between the Florida Gators and the Houston idk uh Roughnecks? More importantly, I was going to see my brother Quentin.

On the way over, I grabbed Culver’s—because it’s amazing and because if I lived near one, I’d be 500 pounds. When I got to Gainesville, Q started showing me around like I’d never been there. I insisted I had. He insisted I hadn’t. Turns out... I hadn’t. It was just my mom and me visiting August. Q was right. Again. Hate that.

To soothe my bruised ego, I challenged him to some Pokémon TCG. He played N’s Zoroark EX (not great), and I mopped the floor with him. Felt good. Then we pivoted to Mario Party mini-games, where I scouted for a win. Eventually, I locked in on Chip Shot Challenge and crushed some CPUs—and more importantly, Quentin.

Later, when August got home, we started pre-gaming for the big game. We cracked open the White Claw Surges (awful, just awful) and began strategizing when to head to First Magnitude, a local brewery. August talked about bringing chairs, so naturally, I dug out my folding beach chair from my trunk. Quentin and I crushed some Surges (August was the DD). We stopped for a gas station run where we picked up more Surges.

When we got to First Mag, the place was slammed—not surprising, but still overwhelming. We immediately saw some of Q and August’s friends (great folks), found a table, and settled in. The energy was already electric.

Mid-game, I got hungry. Two food trucks: one with a massive line, one with none. I went for the one with no line (classic move). The tenders looked amazing... until I took a bite. Vegan. Of course. Probably clearly labeled, but I was way too deep in the sauce to notice. Ranch carried hard, but once it ran out, I abandoned ship. Someone asked if they were free to grab one, and Q said, “They’re vegan.” That ended that.

Now the game? Absolute rollercoaster. The Gators looked awful in the first half. Walter Clayton Jr. went oh-fer. The vibes? Bleak. I was dying of thirst, and Q was making elite drink runs. One water run? Under 30 seconds. I swear someone gave him a golf cart.

Late in the game, I climbed up on a bench to get a better view of the massive screen. When Florida made the final stop to win it, the whole place erupted. I started hugging random frat guys, screaming, “WE DID IT!!!” despite never attending the University of Florida.

Post-game, we mobbed over to campus to cause some controlled chaos. It was drizzling all night, everyone was soaked, and I was running out of steam. We passed a Wawa which was borderline being looted, where I used the restroom and walked out with a crisp Sprite Zero, which fully reset my soul.

Eventually, Q’s friends decided to head back to an apartment. I was fading fast, so I Ubered home, left Q’s keys outside so he wouldn’t get locked out, and collapsed into bed.

The next morning, we got Maple Street Biscuits—both of us going for the hot honey pimento cheese chicken biscuit. Seasonal heater. So good. Before leaving town, I hit a local card shop and snagged a Near Mint 1st Edition Magnemite for $1. A lovely little guy.

Favorite moment from Gainesville? The water runs. Easily.

Stop 3: Atlanta, Georgia – Masters, Maxx, and Maximum Vibes

I flew into Atlanta early Thursday morning, April 10th. Flight was quick, not crowded, and—bonus—no middle seat companion. Shout-out to the guy next to me who slammed a Miller Lite, hit the bathroom, and then passed out for the rest of the flight. Respect.

Navigating the airport was a bit of a choose-your-own-adventure, and I accidentally exited through the taxi-only area. But hey—it perfectly synced up with Kedrick’s arrival. Right on time. Hive connection is strong.

We went back to his place and watched the Masters while Ked did work calls, and I played test matches. Later, we went to Tacos La Villa with amazing energy. Three-taco combo + drink = elite. Then we went to a Braves vs. Phillies game. Tix were cheap, vibes were high, and the popcorn and beer combo hit. Around the 7th, rain started, and the game got delayed—but they powered through. It ended at 1 AM with a two-run homer from Ozuna. Unreal.

On Friday, Ked and I saw the Minecraft Movie, and yes, we were surrounded by rowdy kids—most of whom got kicked out within 15 minutes. No crowd pop for the chicken jockey line, sadly, but Jennifer Coolidge as the Villager lover? Absolute scene-stealer.

That night, Lizzie, Ked, and I went to Ted’s for dinner. Their house-made ranch dip + kettle chips = elite starter. I got the Ted’s Bacon Cheeseburger (because, of course, I did), and it was BANGIN’. Great food, great vibes, powder soap in the bathroom, which was... something.

Saturday was the Atlanta Regional Championship—a long, competitive day of shiny cardboard battles. Afterward, Ked and Lizzie took me to CFA for a victory meal.

Sunday Rot and The Redemption of Maxx

Sunday was sacred. We woke up, and Lizzie and Ked wanted to go on a walk. I was hesitant—Georgia has sneaky elevation—but it turned out great. Ked took some banger photos, which will be posted below.

We spent the rest of the day doing what Sundays are for: beer, pimento cheese, and the Masters. I was pulling for Bryson DeChambeau (hits the ball very far), but he didn’t take it. Still, huge shoutout to Rory McIlroy for finally completing the career Grand Slam. Legend.

Also, big shoutout to Maxx, Lizzie’s cat. I spent the weekend slowly trying to earn his trust. By Sunday, he sniffed my hand a few times and even let me pet him once. Huge win. I didn’t force it—just mutual respect.

Home Again

I wrapped up my journey with an early Monday flight home, where my amazing mom picked me up and brought me back to Herca Lerca.

This trip meant everything to me—time with each of my brothers, incredible memories, wonderful music, and movies, and lots and lots of good food. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I loved living it.

Until next time, Companions 🫶
